My name is Jynx and I’m a Queer and Trans multimedia artist who lives on a small garlic/goat homestead in Templeton, Massachusetts. Naturally, garlic comes to mind as a symbol of community and nourishment, as our homestead is called Gays, Goats, Garlic! to this theme, I painted an acrylic painting of a cake I baked my boyfriend last year for their ‘Bon Voyage’ boobs party. The cake was made with red velvet cake, pink/red icing for inside the cake and light pink icing for outside the cake, topped with chocolate covered cherries for the ‘nipples’… and served on boob shaped paper plates.
I designed the cake so my boyfriend could cut off their cakes boobs, and serve them to their friends as a way to celebrate their top surgery, despite not knowing if it would be canceled with Trump becoming president (thankfully they were able to get their surgery done and they love their results)… but it’s still a terrifying thing to have your bodily autonomy threatened, as many of us are painfully aware.
Things are terrifying right now and all we can do is keep loving, keep fighting and be there for each other in the ways that we can. Make cake to celebrate, eat it, dance, play games and LIVE for those who can’t… while you still have time, because there IS. I love you, thank you so much for being here! Do you want a slice of cake? I may be a poor person, but I’m an artist which means I’m privileged in other ways… like being able to use my food stamps to buy cake ingredients, make and design a cake for my super cool, nonbinary artist, children’s librarian boyfriend.
