“Nature Through My Lens”
Jasmine Galereave
Artist Statement
My name is Jasmine Galereave. I am a photographer from Western Mass. I’ve been fascinated by the world of photography from a young age. Thanks to National Geographic and David Attenborough for those breathtaking photos and videos- that’s one of the reasons I fell in love with capturing the beauty and treasures the world holds. My interest in using a digital camera started in 2015 when I got my first Nikon camera. I am self taught and when I started I didn’t have the knowledge I do today about what it takes to create a photo. I've seen my growth over the years and I'm still learning.
My favorite subjects are wildlife, nature and pets. I love taking photos of pets. I especially love when my photos express how their fur, scaly, feathered, and spikey family members feel about the home they are in with their favorite people and vice versa. I enjoy sharing these photos with the family. I especially love it when someone is so ecstatic and says “oh you've captured my animal’s personality!” Another favorite kind of photo I love to capture is animals being goofy. I love when animals yawn, sneeze and make funny faces or poses. Those kinds of photos make me laugh and I think that funny animal photos bring people together.
I love taking photos around Western Mass but also when I travel. This collection of photos I chose to display is a small example of that. All the photographs of the birds are from Sanibel Island. The lotus is from the botanical gardens in Montreal. And the frog photo was taken in Wellfleet, Cape Cod.
A dream I have is to one day be able to travel and take pictures of wildlife and nature from different parts of the country but also other parts of the world. I’d love to be able to photograph animals and nature from around the world!
I’ve also been exploring another type of photography that fascinates me which is street photography. I thought I’d enjoy it because I like people watching and seeing how people express themselves. I hope to get more comfortable with this form of photography.
